National park about 34 km from Santa Marta, with beaches, coral reefs and ecosystems from sea level to 900 m, and over 300 bird species. Entry is capped and the park closes at certain times of year.

Tairona city founded around 800 CE, with 169 terraces in the Sierra Nevada. Reached by a 4-5 day jungle trek and about 1,200 stone steps, with authorized operators.

A hacienda dating from 1608 where Simón Bolívar died on December 17, 1830. Today it is a museum, with gardens and monuments.

Santa Marta was founded in 1525 and is Colombia's oldest surviving city. Its 18th-century Cathedral Basilica held the remains of Rodrigo de Bastidas and Simón Bolívar.
